Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is resurfacing?
A: We don’t replace, we recoat the existing surface. Some of the surfaces that can be resurfaced are ceramic tile, Formica, cultured marble, fiberglass, bathtubs, and sinks. This gives your home a new look in just one day without the hassle and the high cost of replacement.
Q: How long does the finish last?
A: With proper care the average homeowner could expect the finish to last 15 years. But just like the original finish, if the surface is not properly cared for, or is abused, it will dull and can damage over time. Resurfacing leaves a finish that is just as durable as the original finish. It’s not fragile, but like your existing countertops, it should not be used as a hotplate or cutting board. We offer a 5 year warranty on countertops. If the countertop is accidentally abused it can be repaired at a minimal cost.
Q: How is resurfacing done?
A: Resurfacing involves a multi-step procedure.
· The first few steps involve a thorough cleaning to remove any invisible soap scum, minerals, grease, and silicone which may be on the surface. We use acidic, alkaline, and solvent-based cleaners to do the job right.
· Next, we repair holes, cracks, and chips in the surface.
· We spray on a special bonding primer "Powerbond" which supports the final topcoats.
· The next step is the application of the color coats. Our Stone Accent finish is a beautiful rich combination of colors (see color chart) that looks like granite or Corian, but without the huge price or the maintenance issues. We’re the ONLY craftsmen in NM to offer this coating for your kitchen and bath.
· The final step is the application of a durable clear topcoat to protect your beautiful new countertop.
Q: How long does the average resurfacing job take?
A: Most jobs are completed in less than 1 day. For example, a bathtub, a kitchen countertop, or a shower will take between 4 and 8 hours.
Q: Can you repair gouges and chips?
A: Yes, we repair small chips and gouges at no additional charge. Larger damage is evaluated on an individual basis and may cost extra.
Q: Is there an odor involved with the resurfacing process?
A: There is indeed an odor similar to fingernail polish. The ventilation we use during our process keeps the odor to a minimum. If you are highly sensitive to odors, you may want to leave while we complete our work. It will dissipate completely overnight.
Q: How do I clean my resurfaced surface?
A: We recommend a soft sponge with a mild cleanser. We highly recommend Simple Green but you can use 409, Scrubbing Bubbles, or Lysol. You’ll want to stay away from bristle pads such as Scotchbrite and abrasive cleansers such as Comet and
Q: What else do you resurface?
A: We resurface countertops, bathtubs, bathtub surrounds, showers, shower pans, bathroom vanities, and bathroom sinks. The products we use have an excellent adhesion to fiberglass, cast iron, ceramic tile, Formica, and cultured marble.

Q: What about grout lines when resurfacing ceramic tile?
A: The finish is applied over the grout lines as well as the tile, so they become sealed and non-porous. You’ll keep the appearance of a tiled surface but they won't collect the mold and mildew. Yes, you will have carefree grout lines!

Q: What is the cost?
A: Most standard kitchen countertops run $32.00 per linear foot. Simply measure the length of your countertop and multiply by $32. Include the sink area but exclude the stove. For instance, an average kitchen with 15 feet of countertops runs just $490.00. (15ft x $32 = $480.) Most Bathtubs run $395.00 and surrounds $300.00. We’ll drop by and give you an exact written estimate for free.
Q: What do I need to do before you resurface?
A: Your countertops need to be structurally sound. There should be no movement of the surface. Tiles must be secure. No leaky faucets in the bathtub as this will compromise the finish.
Q: Do you install new countertops?
A: No, but we can resurface your existing ones! We can do a solid color or a multi-color speckled/fleck pattern that REALLY looks like stone. Resurfacing leaves a finish that is as durable as the original finish. It holds up very nicely, but like your existing countertops, should not be used as a hotplate or cutting board.
Q: What is the Professional Bathtub Refinishers Association?
A: It is a select group of refinishers who have joined together to improve the quality and standards of refinishing. Only 1 in 10 refinishers is accepted into the PBRA. The PBRA has developed "Powerbond" the most advanced and strongest primer for porcelain in the world.
